Pet Insurance Cost Calculator: Real Premium Estimates

Our pet insurance cost calculator gives a realistic monthly premium estimate using real, sourced pricing data, not a generic guess. Select your pet’s breed, age, and location below. If we don’t have verified data for your exact combination, we’ll tell you honestly and show you the closest reliable reference point instead of making up a number.

Important: This tool provides a general cost estimate based on published, dated third-party pricing data. It is not a quote and does not determine eligibility, coverage, or your actual premium, which depends on the insurer’s own underwriting, your pet’s health history, your exact location, and the specific policy you choose. Always confirm current rates directly with a provider before purchasing.

How this estimate actually works

We check your combination against three tiers of real data, in order, and show you the most specific one we actually have.

Exact published match. A real insurer sample that matches your breed, age, state, reimbursement, and deductible exactly.
Breed-researched range. A low-to-high range compiled from our own independently sourced breed research, when we don’t have an exact match.
National average. The broader NAPHIA industry benchmark, shown only when we don’t have breed-specific data at all.

Our sources include NAPHIA’s industry benchmark report, and published pricing and breed research from Fetch, Compare.com, Insurify, Spot, Lemonade, AKC, Forbes Advisor, and Embrace. We list the specific source under every result.

Every breed range above links back to a full guide covering that breed’s actual health risks, not just the price.

Pet insurance cost calculator: common questions

Why does my estimate change when I pick a different breed?

Because premiums genuinely vary by breed based on documented health risk and claim history. A French Bulldog and a Dachshund don’t cost the same to insure, and our ranges reflect that real difference rather than applying one flat number to every dog.

Is this pet insurance cost calculator a real quote?

No. It’s an educational estimate built from published, dated pricing data. Your actual premium depends on the insurer’s own underwriting, so always get a real quote directly from a provider before buying.

How often is this data updated?

We review and refresh the dataset as we publish new breed research and as our sources release updated figures. The last review date is shown at the top of this tool.

Why does it sometimes say there isn’t enough data?

We’d rather tell you honestly that we don’t have verified data for your exact combination than guess. When that happens, we show you the closest real reference point we do have instead of inventing a number.

What factors change a pet insurance cost calculator’s output the most?

Breed and age drive the biggest swings, since both are directly tied to documented claim risk. Location, deductible, and reimbursement percentage matter too, but generally move the estimate by a smaller margin than breed and age do.

Should I trust this estimate over a quote from an insurer’s website?

Use this pet insurance cost calculator to set realistic expectations before you start shopping, then get actual quotes from two or three providers using your pet’s real details. The insurer’s own quote will always be the more precise number, since it reflects their specific underwriting.
