We are an independent information resource. We are not a licensed insurance broker or agent, and we don’t sell policies directly. Our articles are designed to help you understand your options so you can choose confidently, you’ll always find links to providers’ official sites when you’re ready to get a quote.
Every article on this site is researched using current, publicly available data from veterinary studies, industry reports, and insurance providers themselves. We update our guides as new research and pricing data becomes available, and every source we cite is linked at the bottom of the article so you can verify it yourself.
How we actually research every guide
1. Primary sources first
We prioritize peer-reviewed veterinary research, university veterinary schools, breed health registries, and insurance providers’ own published policy documents over general blog content. When a claim comes from a specific study, we name the study and link it.
2. No invented numbers
If we can’t find a real, sourced figure for something, we say so directly rather than estimating and presenting it as fact. You’ll see this stated explicitly in several of our guides where the available data is genuinely limited or inconsistent across sources.
3. We check what’s already been written before we write
Before publishing, we look at what other sites already say about a topic. If a topic is already well covered elsewhere, we either skip it or find a genuinely different, verified angle worth adding, rather than publishing a rewritten version of existing content.
4. Every technical detail is checked, not assumed
Cost figures, coverage rules, and waiting periods are cross-checked against more than one source where possible. Where sources genuinely disagree, we say so and show the range rather than picking one number silently.
Who’s behind PetCoverToday
PetCoverToday is run by Sarah Mitchell, who researches and writes every guide on this site. Sarah’s background is in research and data analysis, not veterinary medicine or insurance underwriting, and that’s by design.
Her job here is to dig through the studies, breed health registries, and provider data so you don’t have to, not to replace the advice of your vet or a licensed insurance agent.
Our commitment: every figure, statistic, and cost estimate on this site is pulled from a named, linked source, never invented or estimated without backing. If you ever spot something that looks outdated or incorrect, reach out through our Contact page and we’ll look into it.
